About Will Camden
Will Camden is the author of Confessions of a Professional Conspiracy Theorist, a novel drawing on his career in public relations and his involvement in a campaign that helped promote conspiracy theories now embedded in modern culture. Since stepping back from his full-time role at his PR agency Signalroom, he has focused more closely on this website.
willcamden.co.uk is an independent research platform focused on how persuasion works in practice across media, politics, marketing, and culture.
It is built on a simple premise: that a common set of well-established techniques underpins everything from advertising and influencer culture to mainstream journalism, alternative media, and even conspiracy theories; and while the contexts differ, the underlying mechanics remain largely the same.
The site brings these patterns into view through a combination of original articles and longer-form books, which together provide both detailed analysis and supporting context for the broader argument.
Key Themes
The key themes, concepts and ideas which run through all of our books and articles include the following –
Propaganda & Public Opinion: How mass movements are engineered.
Narrative Engineering: The transition from PR to “social engineering.”
The Architecture of Belief: Why we believe what we believe.
Power & Philosophy: The hidden structures that govern modern society.
- Influence and Persuasion: How we are influenced to make our decisions and to form our views and opinions.
Who this site is for
This work is intended for anyone interested in how persuasion operates in everyday life. Not just in theory, but in the material people actually encounter.
It will be particularly useful for those working in communications, marketing, or media, but it is not written exclusively for specialists.
The aim is to make these ideas accessible to a wider audience, including students and general readers who want to understand how influence works without having to navigate unnecessary jargon or academic framing.
The focus throughout is on clarity and recognisable examples, rather than technical language or abstraction.
In practice, the site is designed to be something you can return to and use. Some pieces are short and direct; others take a more detailed, long-form approach. Together, they build a clearer picture over time.
You can read a single article and take something from it, or follow the longer threads through the books. Either way, the aim is the same — to make the underlying mechanics of persuasion easier to see and easier to think about.
Background and Origins of the Project
The project grew out of a long-standing conversation between two very different perspectives.
Will Camden
PR professional with experience across media, marketing, and narrative strategy.
Will Camden spent much of his career working in public relations, across a range of campaigns involving brand positioning, media narratives, and broader behavioural influence.
Over time, this work provided a detailed, practical understanding of how ideas are shaped, framed, and made to spread.
Patrick Clarke
Independent writer with an interest in how ideas form, spread, and take hold.
Patrick Clarke came to the same themes from a different direction.
Without a formal background in the field, he had developed an interest in how certain narratives — particularly those circulating outside mainstream channels — seemed to follow recognisable patterns.
What began as observation gradually became a set of questions about how those patterns worked, and why they appeared so consistently.
The two met over 25 years ago and found a shared interest in these ideas. What followed was an ongoing exchange between professional experience and everyday observation — one focused on how persuasion is constructed, the other on how it is encountered and interpreted.
In 2024, that exchange developed into the current project. The aim was not to produce a purely academic or purely personal account, but something in between: a body of work that combines practical insight with accessible explanation.
The result is a mix of articles and books that draw on both perspectives — informed by experience, but grounded in clear, recognisable examples.

What You'll Find Here
The site is organised around a combination of shorter articles and longer-form books, each approaching the same subject from slightly different angles.
Some pieces are direct and focused, looking at specific examples or patterns as they appear in everyday media and communication. Others take a broader view, exploring the underlying structure in more detail and over a longer form.
Taken together, they are intended to build a clearer picture over time. You can read a single article and take something from it, or follow the longer threads through the books.
The aim throughout is not to offer fixed conclusions, but to make the mechanics of persuasion easier to recognise, and easier to think about in a more structured way.
You can start with any of the articles, or explore the books for a more complete view of the ideas developed here.
